Foster care is a temporary living arrangement for children who cannot safely live with parents or other family guardians for a period of time. They protect the child from abuse, neglect, abandonment, unsafe conditions, including addiction, violence and trauma. Courts and child protection agencies are involved as a last resort.
The goal is to keep the children safe and cared for by providing a stable and living home, while everyone works toward the best long-term plan for the child including unification with family when possible or another permanent plan. Foster parents take care of daily needs such as food, school, health, emotional support, and activities.
